Finasteride generic (brand name Propecia) is a drug intended for the treatment of male pattern baldness. Finasteride generic is known to be a type II 5a-reductase inhibitor. The 5a-reductase is a type of enzyme in the body that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
By blocking DHT production, finasteride generic lowers the activity of androgen in the scalp, thereby reducing the occurrences of hair loss.
Why finasteride generic is used
Finasteride generic was actually originally used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, or simply known as enlarged prostate glands. In the past, patients with BPH have noted that they have considerable amount of hair growing back on their heads while under treatment of finasteride generic.
